is as the weather got bad yesterday there was a bunch of warm air over lake michigan and that melted the snow and turned it into a nasty cold rain. they had the flights that were delayed yesterday. they have eaten up the access that was created from that. as we look now at the big board it's not very big. the flights that are out there have those magic words attached "on time." getting the flights out of here. we do see significant delays but they are really on either cotion. you -- coast. you can't blame the delays. >> harris: i only counted six flights they did say on time. chicago catching a break but what about the rest are of the midwest? >> in terms of weather. the rest of the midwest got clobbered. wisconsin really got clobbered in dain county where madison is, up to 20 inches of snow. iowa sees snow that rivals the records they set in 2009 or the levels they set in 2009. you have also got tens of thousands of people without power and that's because the wind gusts got up to 50 miles per hour, harris. >> that is tough. it's pretty chilly to be without electricity. we know that all too w

wisconsin is really starting to take the brunt of this and beginning to snow hard now in northern michigan. we'll pick up an additional six to ten inches in northern michigan and wisconsin. but it's the winds that are making it very difficult for the plows to keep up with. we have winds gusting from wichita to des moines, above 40 miles per hour this morning. so travel in the midwest, very dangerous. and i'll continue to give you any updates here on "morning joe." when i hear more information of the mobile area in alabama, possibly struck by a tornado within the last half hour. you're watching "morning joe." we're brewed by starbucks. this family used capital one venture miles to come home for the holidays. that's double miles you can actually use... sadly, their brother's white christmas just got "blacked out." .c. the snow that's falling right now in chicago and in parts of michigan and wisconsin, that's one storm system that's going to merge with another one developing along the gulf coast. you can see all of the heavy rain that's bringing -- being brought down in louisiana and portions of mississippi as well. there is a chance we could see isolated severe storms. moving into portions of ohio down towards evans i will have and pittsburgh by later on tonight. cold enough to support snow. temperatures just below the freezing mark. we have the cold their place here comes the snow into manhattan. we are thinking for you guys in washington, d.c., it may be more of a mix of rain and snow here. 32, pittsburgh. winds would economic as well. we will be dealing with quite a bit of snow important the mount theous areas and adirondacks and green mountains and on over towards maine as well as temperatures will be teens and 20s. wind will make it feel even worse and we are always going to have to watch out for the severe side of things especially closer to the gulf coast. >> it will make for an interesting

to express the fact that last night i came in to do a special order on the situation happening in michigan where a surprise attack, a sneak attack by the right wingers resulted in the passage of legislation, which i won't refer to as right to work legislation, it's more appropriately named crush the union legislation. i came up last night to the floor to speak on that issue, and as i am prone to do, i use a lot of analogies. so last night i used an analogy that some find offensive, and i certainly was not meaning to be offensive or use a derogatory term. you know, everybody knows what the n word is. . the n word, mr. speaker, is used to describe a group of people and the n word used to be fashionable or it used to be socially acceptable to use the n word, but now we don't say the n word, we say -- we refer to that word as the n word. i had never heard of the m word, representative schakowsky, the m word. it's a word also that describes a group of people and it at one time has been commonly used as a desipive -- descripive term. it was at one time socially -- scripive term. it was at one ti

. host: ? writes -- josh rogin writes -- brian is with us from michigan. republican line. caller: good morning. one of the questions i have had since the beginning is where was the president and secretary of state? did they see this going down in real time? i have not heard that question asked. i hope you can answer both questions. why did these recent three or four leave the state department? what did they do wrong to leave? will they be subpoenaed, will they be asked to come and testify? guest: as for real-time surveillance, what we know now is that there was some surveillance of the attack. apparently there was an unarmed drone that was quickly deploy that captured some of the attack. we also learned that there was testimony that the deputy assistant secretary who was in charge of the embassy security was monitoring these events in real time along with a couple of other people. we are not sure whether the cia and defense department were monitoring, but it is possible they were. president obama had a full schedule. he was in the middle of the campaign that day. he was being briefed b
